IF YOU SEE A PRICE TAG YOU DISLIKE, BEAT IT WITH A STICK, TWICE

Jan27

new entry, should be the last from the finally- completed German ebook we've done.
Over 1000 German words traced to Edenic.
----------

REBA(TE)     ReBH[A]h     Resh-Bhet-Ayin
REV-ah_
   _____רבע__     __[R-BH]
ROOTS:  The typically absurd folk etymologyprinted in our references trace REBATE

to Old French  rebattre, to strike again, as if a huckster is actually “beating down” prices

with a stick.  And if a  retailer is kicking down an imaginary price sign, how and why

 is he doing so “again?”

If you think this etymology can’t be beat, see BEAT at “BOOT.”

More likely, REBATE came from some unknown word that some lexicographer invented

a nice Western etymology for.  This was no wackier than many others, and publication would

sanctify it.   German Rabatt is a  rebate or discount (often 4% for buying with cash).

רבעית   RiBH[EE]YT is one fourth. A Semitic –YT suffix might have been added to aother word

based on ארבע ARB[A]h, four.   In ancient Mesopotamia there was a similar discount for

urchases with silver instead of barley.

Another financial term sounding like REBATE is almost an antonym.   רבית  RiBeeYT,

interest on a loan, also involves a percentage, but is not buyer-friendly, like a REBATE.

  Usury chases רב   RahBH, multiplicity.

Since  ארבע ARB[A]h (four) was named for רב RaBH (a lot), it should lie at the core of REBATE.

BRANCHES:  German rabat’tieren is  to deduct a discount .

Just explain to the officer that your dictionary told you to repeatedly beat down the price.
