Roots

PEEK (glance or look) is from Middle English piken, but the scholars cannot find an earlier source. They should have taken a PEEKABOO at the Hebrew Bible. In Exodus23:8 ("a gift blindeth them that have sight") a sighted person is a פקח   PeeQa[K]H. Earlier, at Exodus 4:11, the term is rendered "seeing:"

"And the Lord said unto (Moses):

Who hath made Man's mouth?

or who maketh a man dumb,

or deaf, or seeing, or blind?

Is it not I the Lord?"

Branches

PaQa[K]H is an inspector. Arabic faqqaha means "he opened the eyes."
