Roots

The BUZZARD is a slow flying hawk, from Old French busart.

בז BahZ is a hawk; ba’z is the Aramaic .  בזיר  BahZeeYR is a falconer. בז  BahZ is also loot or booty - the chief object of this scavenging carnivore. The double Z of BUZZARD is met by the double   ז Zayin/Z in    בזז BaZahZ (to spoil, plunder, "pillage" - Jeremiah3:37.

Branches

"Spoil" means "loot" or "to waste," just as  BahZ is spoils (of war) and  BiZBaiZ is to squander, spoil or WASTE. Related terms like  BaZAh and  BiTSeeYaH  (1. to divide, 2. to cut) refer to the ripping havoc (loot, waste) of hawks.  For WASTE as in WASTELAND, see DESERT in DESERTER.

The American plains Indians (Kiowa) called a buzzard a bosen.

See EMBEZZLE and BOOTY.

Ts’om means buzzard in Maya. This fricative-nasal bird of prey is matched by Chinese sun, falcon, p.620.  Both are the reverse of NaiTS, falcon (Aramaic and Syriac, Jer. 48:9).

BeeTS[A]h is to execute or accomplish, translated “finish” in Zecharia 4:9.  In British dialect, from Celtic, to BUZZ is to finish off, as in a bottle of wine.  Josh Ben
