Roots

The Milky Way named our GALAXY, from Greek gala (milk). This Greek term is such an INTERGALACTIC mystery to the scholars that it is included at the Indo-European “root” melg (to rub, to  milk) "to mark the unexplained fact that no common Indo-European noun for milk can be reconstructed."

As usual, the answer is as distant and as near as Hebrew.  חלב   K[H]aLa[V] is milk - Exodus3:8; milky is  K[H]aLa[V]eeY. For the Biblical verb behind “milk,” see MILK.

חלב   [K]HeLeBH is animal fat (Leviticus 3:6), and it can be figurative, as in “the fat of the land.”

Branches

Quechoa (Inca) fat, wira, is covered by both Biblical bilabial-liquid “fat” words. 1) is   our  חלב [K]HeLe[V]  (n. fat -- ←, S-L -- Leviticus 6:25) and  2) by the straightforward adj. for fat, בריא      BaReeYE  – see BRIO.

If Spanish and Portuguese “candle,” vela,  was named for fat, then this word may be a reversal of Het-Lamed-Bhet.  Another reversal of this liquid-bilabial may be Japanese fat, abura.

The Japanese term and the Lamed-Bet of our Edenic etymon here are related to BiReeY, a noun of   fat (Ezekiel 34:20), BaReeYE, an adjective meaning fat, and BeeRYaH, food for fattening an animal (II Samuel 13:5) –see BARLEY. GALACTOSE and GALALITH are among the words derived from Greek gala or galaktos (milk). Spanish leche ( milk ) is from a reversal of חלב K[H]aLa (V).

CLABBER, from Irish clabar, means sour or curdled milk. See MILK, but also see ALBINO and LIVER for the Lamed-Bhet element of the KH-L-V root.

Taking the Het-Lamed of Edenic milk, and dropping the Bhet/BH as did the Greek, is “milk” in Sinhala (Sri Lanka):  Ki-ri. The Lamed/L has shifted liquids to R.

Bible Verses

“and I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite.”
