Roots

The  so-called Indo-European “root” of OLIVE is elaia (olive).  The AHD calls this a “Greek noun of Mediterraean origin.”   Importanly for this entry, they do see OLIVE and OIL as cognates.   The primary Edenic etymon suggested addresses the OILY essence of the olive: [K]HeLe(V), fat (Leviticus 3:16) or the “nutritious substance” (Harkavy) of  wheat (Deuteronomy 32:14).  This vegetable oil is like the fat of animal meats.  EDK defines [K]HeLe(V) as fat or grease.  He cites the identical Phoenician, and the similar Syriac: [K]HeLBAh.  Grease is OIL, the OLIVE was and remains a primary source of cooking and eating oil.  [K]HaLaBH is milk;  [K]HeLBOAN is ALBUMIN (see ALBINO).  A secondary Edenic etymon concerns the shape, rather than the inner substance of the OLIVE. [A]yNah(V) is a grape (GENESIS 40:10),  while [A]NaH(V) means round or GLOBULAR.  Ayin or Het makes an easy O in OLIVE.  For [A]Na(V) to offer the L in OLIVE or GLOBE requires a rare Noon-to-L shift.

Branches

Besides OIL, the given cognates of OLIVE are AIOLI, ANELE,  LANOLIN, -OLE, OLEAGINOUS, OLEASTER, OLEO-,  and PETROLEUM

In Japanese too, OLIVE and OIL and FAT are nearly identical, and are from Het-Lamed-Bhet. Olive is oribu (perhaps a borrowing); oil is abura; and fat is aburami.  Het becomes a vowel again;  Lamed shifts liquids to R; Bhet becomes a B.

Oil in Arabic is zayt; olive is zaitoun – like the Edenic ZahYiT (olive – Genesis 8:11).
