Roots

The hard C is evident in the Indo-European “root” kel (to conceal, to cover). Even better, the actual half-way source is Latin cella (a chamber). Latin C is a hard C, a mirrot image of כ Kaph.  A CELL is a small hut, a room in a prison, a small hollow cavity or compartment, etc.

The prison CELL is well covered by כלא   KeLEh (dungeon -IIKings25:27) or KLOOE (prison).

Branches

BRANCHES: KL OOBH is a cage. All the HL HOLES and HOLLOWS listed as cognates of CELL are more directly from  K[H]aLaL (hole, space, vacuum)  – see  HOLLOW. GAOL is an older British spelling of jail. Flip over the L of CELL to the Hebrew Noon/ N for a KN cell word.  QahN (cell, little room, nest, board) is a better etymon for KENNEL than Latin canis (dog).  A CELLER used to be more like a crawl space than a finished den.  For jail cells and K-R walls, see INCARCERATE.
