Roots

The Indo-European “root” of CRYPT is krau (to conceal), but it is unlikely that CRYPTOGRAPHY preceded burial and the grave, where corpses are hidden.  In Genesis 23:6, Qe[V]eR is a GRAVE or CRYPT and the verb of burying.  See “GRAVE.”  To DECRYPT (reveal) the KRP root that was ENCRYPTED (concealed) neuro-linguistically, we perform an M132 methasthesis of Koof-Bhet-Resh, with a bilabial shift from BH to P.  The T was added to differentiate the word from sound-alikes.  K[HaBaH is to hide – see CUBBY. For a sound-alike, built-in antonym of uncovering , see K[H]aPHaR (to dig) at  GOPHER.

If spelunking this guttural-bilabial sound of secrecy, one might also want to explore CAVE.

Branches

CRYPTIC, KRYPTON and APOCRYPHA (see APOCRYPHA) are cognates. The metathesis and shifts above are a good example of Edenics’ ENCRYPTION.
