Roots

MADONNA means "my lady" in Italian; ma (my - from Latin mea) +donna (lady). The title "lady" is the feminine of "lord." The title DAN is from Old French dan (master, sir); thought to have originated with Latin dominus (master, lord). Instead of a DN root of mastery, the Latin-DOMINATED reference books trace MADONNA and DAN to the Indo-European “root” deme- (house, household).

As usual, Hebrew has a clear etymon that requires no manipulation of sense. AhDOAN means sir, mister (i.e. master), or lord in Genesis24:18, while in Genesis45:9 the same term means Lord (i.e. God).  אדון   AhDOAN plus the  –Yod suffix (ahY) of first-person possession (my) adds up to "my Lord," the most common name of God in Hebrew texts. In Deuteronomy 10:17, the Aleph-Dalet-Noon is clearly the Supreme Deity.

Branches

The French  Madonna  (female lord or noble) is a DAME, like  in English MADAM.  These  D-Ms are only a nasal shift from  אדון ADOAN, lord.  H uman noble, as in the House of Lords, were to be lawmakers. דן    DahN means to judge (as usual just two letters are crucial).  It also is the name DAN. DANIEL means that the Lord is The Judge.  The verb YaDeeYN in the Dalet-Noon wordplay of  Genesis 49:16 means that “Dan  shall judge…”    DeeYN, law,  is the DOMINANT principle in the Hebrew Bible's DOMINION.  Don’t let a simple dental shift from Noon/ N to M distract you.  Greek daimon means deity, not "household." The word DEMON, therefore, is probably a DM (nee DN) word of lordship and mastery.  Spanish DON JUAN (also Mister/Master in Italian) is just a variation of  ADOAN YOHANAN (Mister YOHANON… later Jonathan and John, and Don Juan ). Indo-European deme- (to constrain, force) infers the INDOMITABLE PREDOMINANCE of the  DeeYN (law) which the AhDOAN (lord or Lord) gave us to TAME  see TAME) or DOMESTICATE us. ADAMANT and DIAMOND are also cognates of DAUNT at Indo-European deme- (to force).  (MiI)DeeYNaH is a state, that is, a legal jurisdiction.  The city of MEDINA, Saudi Arabia was also named for law (DeeYN), for the city’s area of jurisdiction.  MiDeeYNaH, a province or country, does not appear until Daniel 2:48.  Nations began as mere city-states.

A nasal shift from N to M is no excuse for ignorance of the law. A successful political DOMAIN or KINGDOMshould display a CONDOMINIUM of power, where no single DON, DEAN, DAM, DAME or MADAME DOMINEERS in a tyrannical fashion. DYNASTY belongs with the DN words of legal jurisdiction  too.

Dame means ladies in Slavic languages like Serbo-Croation, with dama and domu (lady) in Polish. These are from the same Edenic D-N or dental-nasal etymon. But lady, like DAME in English is a title of respect, as in the woman in charge of a household.

Words for women are usually less respectful – see “queen” at the NOOK entry.  In Slavic languages like Czech, a woman is a zena. In Hungarian (not Slavic) a woman is asszony. Far from a lady in charge, these appear to be related to ZOANaH (prostitute – Genesis 34:31).  ZaNaH does mean “to go astray” (see SIN), but besides any theological male chauvinism against woman as temptress, the Zayin-Noon Z-N might be merely related to Zayin-Vav-Noon, to feed (also in Aramaic and Akkadian). Sadly, the men of some cultures consider a woman to be like a prostitute, someone fed or sustained for sex.
