Roots

MIX, from Latin misceo, is traced to IE “root” meik (to mix).

מסך   Ma$ahKH is to mix (Proverbs9:2). The mixing of the MSK to (the easier) MKS resembles the way "ask" has lapsed to "aks" for many native New Yorkers.A similar nasal-fricative-guttural word is מזג   MeZeG (to mix or mingle, especially wine – Songs 7:3).  Both require a MIXING, an M132, to get in the mix.

Paradoxically,  the same מסך   Ma$ahKH means curtain, screen (see MASK); that which separates space, and prevents areas from mixing..

Branches

Ma$eKe(S) is a web (Judges16:13) - a fine source for MESH. MESH is linked to IE “root” mezg (to knit); MaZeG is a mixed or blended drink in Songs7:3.

Cognates of MIX include APOM1XIS, ADMIX, COMMIX, IMMIX, MEDDLE, MEDLEY, MELANGE, MESTIZO, MISCELLANEOUS, MISCEGENATION, MIXTURE, PELL-MELL and PROMISCUOUS. MASH, from Old English masc, is listed as a possible cognate.

Other possibilities might be MISHMASH, MUSIC (mixed sounds) and MUSTANG (linked to Latin miscere, to mix).   In German, too, no metathesis is needed from Me$eKH (to mix) in vermischen  and mixen (to mix) or   with Masche (mesh).

Massak in Eskimo means mixed snow and water; Japanese isshoni (together) may be from MSK too. "Together" in Modern Greek is mazi.
