Edenic Word

Hebrew Word

SILICON is from Latin silex or silicis (flint - a rock). צור TSOAR is flint (see STYLE), the Tsadi-Resh can shift to S-L. A better SLK etymon is סלע $eLGH[A]h (rock - Judges6:20).  סלע    $eLaGH, stone  and  צור      TSOOR, rock (see RAZOR) are fricative-liquid synonyms; more relevant fricative-guttural-liquid synonyms are the verbs סקל   $aQahL to stone, and  סקל $eeKail, to clear of stones.

$eeQaiL is to stone and also to clear away stones - Exodus19:13.

SAXATILE is from Latin saxum (rock, stone). SILEX, SILICA, SILICATE, SCAR (a projecting rock), SHALE (a rock said to derive from scealu, Old English for a husk or shell), SLATE, CROMLECH (flat stone) and KILLICK (anchor stone) might all be related. See ROCK for the LK → RK shift. The soft Ayin/[A] of סלע $eLGHah or $eL[A]h would have given SHALE its H. The hard Ayin/GH provides the CH and K of the other stones.

Another Samekh-Lamed term, $aLOOL (paved) may be related to the SL element of crushing rock to a SILICEOUS, SILICIFEROUS form. After $eLaH (trampling), these quartz-like SILICON rocks can resemble SALT, SILT (from Middle English cylte, gravel) or SoaLeT (fine flour - Genesis18:6).  SALT has a troubled etymology, with no source for the T.  Another attempted link to SALT is at EXULT (A).

Another common “stone” term is not S-L but L-TH.  Greek lithos, stone, gives English scores of words beginning with LITH-, ending with -LITH, as well as words like LITHIUM.  Samekh can interchange with dentals.  $OOR and TOOR mean to tour, and

$eyed means lime while DTeeYDT means slime . The TH in –LITH is much like a fricative anyway ($eeYR is a Thorn).

Recognizable chips off the original סלע $eLGHah or $eL[A]h include the following:     Hungarian szikla  (M132, S-G) is a rock;  Polish oselka  ( S-G) is a whetstone. Seul is a stone in in the Yakaghir language of northeast Siberia.

The other Biblical “flint” is Het-Lamed-Mem-Yod-Shin, חלמיש K[H]aLaMeeYSH (flintstone, silex – Deuteronomy 8:15). This rock is struck to make fire.  Any longer Edenic word, with more than three radical consonants is a combination; some are as subtle as this. The Het-Lamed-Mem is from הלם HaLahM, to strike ; the Yod Shin is for   אש AiSH, fire.

CALCULATE,  CALCULUS (the Latin pebble), and CROCODILE are initially from Greek kroke (a pebble), so they are related  The first syllable in CALCULATING may come from KOOL (to measure – Isaiah 40:12). But there is the hard C/soft C difficulty.  CALCIFY, CALCIUM and related words are initially from Latin calx, limestone. But perhaps this C was originally a soft C. Then these words may be cut from an SLK kind of Edenic stone, the Samekh-Lamed-Ayin here at SILICON.

Bible Verses

Judges 6:20 ויאמר אליו מלאך האלהים קח את־הבשׂר ואת־המצות והנח אל־הסלע הלז ואת־המרק שׁפוך ויעשׂ כן׃

“And the angel of God said unto him: ‘Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and lay them upon this rock, and pour out the broth.’ And he did so.”
