Roots

VAGABOND and VAGRANT  have  no  IE “root.”  The Online Etymology Dictionary  has these V-G traveling terms wander into print around the 15th Century.  They are perhaps related  to Latin vagari (to wander), but more likely related to WALK (see WALK) via Old French wa ( u ) c rer ( to go).

Between the V-G of English and elsewhere (see below and at WAGON) we can suspect the prolific  (Dalet-)Resh-Khaf Edenic etymon of traveling, as seen at DIRECTION.  This even though the Dalet/D has dropped, the Resh/R which can be a WR or just a W has here shifted to a V, and the Khaf/KH has shifted gutturals to a G.     דרך   DaRaKH (to walk)  see TRACK.

Branches

Even  WAY is a W-G  word from  the Edenic Resh-Kahf, see WAGON.

WAY is German Weg but Swedish vag.  V-G  “travel”cognates that allow the link to  DeReKh include  Italian viaggio (a trip, journey),
