Roots

Greek hugies means healthy. It is from the so-called Indo-European “root” g(w)ei, meaning to live.            גהה  GayHaH means "good health" (Proverbs17:22);    גהות GeyHOOT means hygiene. The Indo-European “root” and cognates like QUI(CK), alive, echo     חי K[H]aiY or    חי [K]HaiY (to live; alive, active - Genesis3:22).  Het-Yod with an added Hey, חיה  [K]HaYeH, means lively, strong (Exodus1:19). The “beast” (KJV) or creature thought to have killed Joseph is a   חיה [K]HaYaH in Genesis 37:33;         חוה [K]HaVAh means living creature in Aramaic. In Biblical Hebrew,  the “mother of all life” is    חוה K[H]aVaH – anglicized as “Eve.”

A guttural-Yod common companion to   חי Het-Yod (life) is   קים QaYaM (continuing, enduring – Daniel 6:8).  Another guttural-Yod term of existence is   היה HaYaH (exist – Genesis 2:5).

Listed cognates include AEROBIC, AMPHIBIOUS, BIO-, BIOTIC, CENOBITE, MICROBE, REVIVE, SURVIVE, SYMBIOSIS, VIABLE, VIAND, VICTUAL, VITAL, VIVA (see VIVA), VIVACIOUS, VIVID.  A[V]eeY[V] means springlike) and ZOO. Old Indic ayu means alive. Quechua chay is a person. Choy in a Turkish dialect means “wild.”

Like Het-Yod, K[H]ahY, the chi in Tai Chi Chinese exercises also means the vital life force. In the Xinhua dictionary for English readers, chi is defined as “live on” on page 78.  Japanese

yoki (liveliness) reverses (as usual) to a goodmatch with K[H]aYeH (lively – Exodus 1:9)  See HEYDAY.

Of course the etymologists could be mistaken about HYGIENE and Greek hygiainein, healthy coming from an HG root, and not an HGN one.  In such a case there are later Hebrew words to consider as cognates, like HoaGeN, proper, and HaGaNaH (defense… prevention)
